English is not the official language of China, most of the Chinese are not aware of the language. But the time is changing, and as the economy of the country is growing and making a dent on the global scenario, learning the language has become essential for the Chinese citizens. It is for this reason that the demand for the native speaker of the language has increased, by several counts. In this context, it will be interesting to take note of the following piece of statistic. Between the phase spanning from 2015 and 2016, the country needed as many as four thousand teachers.
There is always a need
So, if you want to teach English in China, as a native speaker of the language, you have reasons to be happy. Just go through the job portals; you will see that everywhere, right from the kindergarten schools to the schools, colleges, and universities, there is a demand for the language teacher. If you think of staying in the Asian country, for a few years, as a part-time traveler you can land up with a full-time assignment. That’s because the academic institutions will be too happy to employ you, even if you happen to be a part-time traveler.
Reason for the Shortage
Most of the native speakers who come to the country engage themselves in professions other than teaching. As a result, there is a consistent shortage of teaching professionals. The academic facilities are particular about appointing the native speakers, as the language teacher. But they are unable to find the native English speakers. The fact that you are not the citizen of the country will not be a constraining factor. As long as you have the qualification to teach English in China, you can get a job that pays you handsomely
Meet the criterion
Make sure that you have the work visa ready. Only then, the academic organizations will think of giving you the appointment. As an applicant, you must fulfill the following requisitions, other than having the work visa and complying with the rules and regulations set by the country’s State Administration for the overseas-related affairs.
First and foremost, having the bachelor’s qualification is a must. Secondly, without the certification that is issued by the TEFL, you cannot expect to become a language teacher.
Thirdly, your case will be given preference if you have at least two years of work experience. In the case you don’t have the certification; you can complete the course online and get yourself TEFL certified, during your stay in the country.
Nitty-gritty of the procedure
If you meet the requirements mentioned above and if you have a lawful passport, you can apply for the teaching jobs. The facility interested in appointing will conduct a short interview and finalize your employment. While working out the procedures, you will be required to produce your certificates, visa, and the identification card which have been authorized by the foreign expert. The employer will crosscheck these documents and provide you with a formal letter. The letter that you receive has to be presented to the country’s consulate office, as well.
